We have a winner: MAP Reading Fluency!

We are thrilled to announce that MAP Reading Fluency, our new oral reading fluency assessment for K-3 readers, won the 2018 SIIA CODiE award for Best Student Assessment Solution! MAP Reading Fluency uses innovative technology to assess oral reading fluency online – enabling group administration and saving teachers hours of time.

During the test, K-3 students wear a headset and read into a microphone. They are assessed on foundational skills, reading comprehension, and oral reading fluency. When they are finished, the test is automatically scored, and a recording is available for teachers to play back and share with parents.

An industry first, the adaptive oral reading fluency assessment is powered by LanguaMetrics, Inc., the leader in speech-enabled education applications, and uses patented speech recognition technology, Eduspeak®. EduSpeak, licensed from SRI International, is one of the first speech engines tailored to children ages 4-8.

The SIIA CODiE Awards are are the premier awards for the software and information industries – and the industry’s only peer-reviewed awards program. In reviewing MAP Reading Fluency, judges noted the assessment is “a tremendous time saver for elementary school teachers.” They cited strengths, including “adaptation to the student,” “recordability for use in parent teacher conferences,” and “plenty of stats for setting benchmarks.”
